Everyone has goals and dreams in their life and no matter what area they are in, someone has gone out and achieve the same level of success that you'd like to accomplish. These people have been there, done that, have paid the price, and know what it takes to get there because they've succeeded. These are the type of people that you want as mentors in your life to help guide you towards that goal. These people do not need to be obsessed over of held to idol status, but understanding and having a great deal of respect for them will bring you a greater understanding of how they became successful. Knowledge is power and if someone has succeed in achieving the same goals that you have, you can bet your bottom dollar that they know how to get you there, so become friends and absorb all the knowledge that you can.
With that being said, it's equally important not to listen to people that haven't gone through what it takes to make it to your goals and/or dreams. They can only speculate on what it takes, but they don't know first hand what it feels like, the sacrifices that must be made, and how hard you really have to work to achieve greatness.
Someone that I look up to in terms of bodybuilding is Jay Cutler (In Pic Above) he's a 4 time Mr. Olympia winner and in my eyes one of the very best bodybuilders of all times. This guy knows what it takes to build muscle, the sacrifices that are made, and the mental torture that's involved in become the very best. This guy walks around over 300 pounds, he's been there, he's done it. A 180 pound crossfit guy can't tell you what needs to be done to capture greatness in bodybuilding, he can get you ripped but not built. So i'd never listen to a guy like that, he has no credibility in my eyes.
Find someone in your life that has accomplished the same things that you want and follow their every moves, watch what they do, and understand what makes them successful. Once you've achieve all they have, move on and break your own trail! Be your own maverick and set new goals that haven't been achieved. Dream big and never give up
