Everyday i strive for constant never ending improvement! It's a mindset that separates me from a lot of others in this industry because i look at it as a lifestyle and way of life for the next 20-30 years. Too many people go crazy always looking at the short term and often burnout or get down on themselves because they don't see the desired results instantly. Nothing worse than stopping before you give yourself a chance to receive the fruit of your labour. In health, fitness, business, or life in general, each day that you can take baby steps to move closer to your goals will allow you to get going. This will also allow you to compound those small daily actions into big steps over the course or a month, 3 months, and a year.

I was told years ago that it takes 10,000 hours of practise at something to become an expert at it. This is truly buying your time and learning each step of the way. As you amount the hours, you'll find that you become more aware and understanding of the big picture. It's really about a lifestyle as i go back to it, those things daily that keep you mentally focused and allow you to make positive changes in your life! No matter what it is that you want to do, keep that direction with razor focus. Constant never ending improvement is the mind frame you must have!
Do you train traps with your back or shoulders? The answer to that question is BOTH! Most people think that you have 2 types of shrugs (front & back) but they fail to realize that you can do shrugs in 2 completely different ways to target the muscle and build mass. The standard front barbell shrug is a great exercise for building mass because it allows you to take on a fairly heavy weight load and get a good contraction. The motion is an easy one for most because it's straight up and down and you are simply trying to touch your ears with your shoulders. Adding this style of shrug to your shoulder workout is best and will give you that burning feeling that you desire to round out your shoulder routine. Hitting out 3-4 sets of 15-20 reps will have the traps full of blood and feeling great.

The other version that i'm talking about is achieved by laying on an inclined bench facing downwards. You'll be pulling up high to the ceiling which will open up your traps to the back giving you more mass. When laying with your chest against inclined bench, let the dumbbells hang towards the ground, contracting your traps back and up to the ceiling will allow you to activate them properly. This is a very short range of motion and should be completed controlled so that you are feeling the muscle work throughout the entire range. Hitting this style is best coupled with back day and will help you width & mass to your traps!Sweat By Coreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13231691726777894220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873345281374952230.post-20799989501182722372015-04-05T10:24:00.001-07:002015-04-05T10:24:46.541-07:00Gym Motivation -Change your thinking, change your body!

If you are reading this post i'm certain that you have decided to make a change in your life for the better and want to get motivated to become the best YOU that you can be. Each person looks at health & wellness in a different way and we all have different motivations for exercising. Whatever your reasons and goals are keep in mind that you have the power within you to shape your life accordingly.

How can changing the way i think change my body? When you think about your body and mind as 2 separate units living within the same frame you'll be able to first grasp this concept. The mind is the driving force that tells the body what to do. The body responds to everything that the mind tells it to do. The only way that the body will change is by the actions of the brain to tell it to change. We simply are how we think. It you tell yourself that you are capable of achieving a certain task or goal, the body will react to be able to success conquer it. How you think ultimately becomes the single most important thing you should focus on when attempting to change your current state. First you must believe it before you can achieve it.

A good friend of mine set out to change his life, he was 300+ pounds and badly out of shape. He decided that he wanted to be a fighter or warrior and he took that mentality from the beginning. At 300 pounds he thought he was an elite fighting warrior capable of fighting the best fighters in the word. It didn't matter to him that he wasn't the quickest or most built fighter, he had the heart and the mindset to overcome those odds. Day in and day out he told him self that and over time his body had no choice but to adapt to the thought of the mind. Without even thinking about it, he began to drop pounds and build muscle. His body was reacting to the mind of becoming elite and the changes started to happen. He was training like and elite athlete, eating like and elite athlete, so all things being in place in the mind focused the body to change. Today he is in the low 200's and full of energy. Still thinking 45 years old that he's elite allows him to look and work like he is.Sweat By Coreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13231691726777894220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873345281374952230.post-79254429566246418202015-04-02T20:36:00.004-07:002015-04-02T20:36:53.480-07:00Back To Basics For A Bigger Back

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make during back exercises is that they aren't activating their back muscles at all. With improper form you'll be able to get a great biceps and traps workout but unfortunately that isn't the point of the workout. First of all think of your arms simply as hanger or hooks used to simply hold onto the weight. All of the tension and focus (mind-to-muscle-connection) should be placed on the particular part of the back that you are trying to target. Exercises such as chin up, lat pull downs, and rows, are great exercises to target your traps and the more tension you can place on them the more they will grow. For any muscle group to be activated and grow, you'll need need to place as much targeted tension on that particular muscle group to stretch and breakdown the muscle fibres.

A simple tip that i've learned for training back is to focus on opening and closing your scapula. The scapula is a floating bones that is attached by muscle tissue. Focusing on opening and closing it will allow you to work through the entire range of motion at any angle of a row or pull that you do.

Another great tip is to slow down.. it's not a race but rather a marathon to put as much tension on the working muscle. Slow down reps and focus on the contraction by squeezing as hard as you can in the shortened portion of the lift. By doing so you'll activate more muscle fibres which will lead to more growth.

Sample Back Workout That I Do.

Warmup: Wide grip Lat Pulldowns x 20 superset with x20 close grip Lat Pull downs (Repeat 3 Times)

Workload:
Wide Grip Chin ups 3x10-12 reps
Closer Grip Chin Ups 2 x failure
Wide Grip Cable Row 3x 12-15 reps
High Elbow Rope Pull to Face (Same machine as cable row with a cable attachment) 3x12
Hammer Strength Row 3x10 reps
Upright Rows 3x8-10 reps
Deadlifts 1x15 3x8-10 reps
Body weight back extension 3 x failure
If you are a serious athlete you need to take the time to source out a quality multivitamin that is designed for athletes. I've has a great experience with a number of other Inner Armour products so i figured that I would give this product a try after my previous multivitamin is now discontinued. Great profile to this product with a good amount of quality ingredients.

What's inside the box:
Thousands of vitamins, minerals, co-factors, amino acids, and omegas. Overall a quality pack that has been proven to reduce soreness in athletes and aid in recovery. An added bonus is the XL tshirt that comes free inside every container.

Value:
In terms of value i'd say this is one of the best value products that you'll find in the vitamin category. Retailing in the low to mid $40's for a 30 day supply you'll be happy you picked up this product as you'll feel a difference within the 30 days.

When to use it:
They say to have it with the biggest meal of the day. In terms of what i found to be most effective is taking it with breakfast to start the day off right!

Overall:
I will definitely continue to use this product as i'm onto my second container now. Great addition to my supplement stack and i'd recommend you try it out for yourself! 8/10
CytoSport Monster Pump: The Pre-Training Nitric Oxide Energy Catalyst is a dietary supplement that will have you primed and ready to hit the gym. This none proprietary blend allows you to see the exact ingredients that you'll be putting into your body so that you can be assured you are getting the mg or g that you are looking for.

Quality:
This product is blended with some of the more high quality ingredients including creapure creatine, PepForm L-Leucine, and CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine. Within the industry these are some of the most well known and respected brands that distribute the raw ingredients. You can be assured that you are getting quality in this product as all of Cytsoport's products must go through extensive testing to meet the NSF certification for Sport!

Value:
Overall you'll be getting a product that will satisfy most weekend warriors and athletes that are relatively new to the pre-workout category. Price point on this item is very competitive to the competition in both Canada and the USA which is inline with industry averages.

Convenience:
This all in one pre-workout is a very convenient way to take 1 scoop in a shaker and run. They have some nice added ingredients in this blend that will not only help you during your workout but also help in recovery post workout.

Effectiveness (Science):
This is a relatively low stimulant product that won't blow your head off when you take it. It's important to note that the dosages of key ingredients such as creatine, Taurine, Beta-Alanine, and Leucine are all at scientifically proven dosages that will deliver the most benefit. You average gym go-er will find this very effective from an ingredients standpoint and it'll satisfy your training needs.

Satisfaction (Taste):
3 flavours available: Fruit Punch, Sour Grape, Blue Raspberry.
All of the flavours are very sweet and powerful when mixed with a full 20 oz. of water. These are more on the "fruity" side of the flavours and you can instantly tell what you are drinking. In terms of best flavours, i personally like the Sour Grape #1, Blue raspberry #2, Fruit Punch #3

Overall:
Great product to add to your supplement program to allow your body the rest from high stims and all you to still train hard. I'd give this product a strong 9/10
Check your ego at the door and grow! Your muscles can't tell how much weight you are holding in your arms and you shouldn't care also. Heavy weights only fuel the mind and often the mind lives in a different place than reality. Have you ever questioned someone like Kai Green doing dumbbell curls with 35 pound weights or Shawn Rhoden squatting 225? Whats up with that, are these guys lazy or are they smart!? In reality they are utilizing something called time under tension and they are taking the muscle as close to failure as possible. They will hit out 15-20-25 reps with perfect form and concentrate on the squeeze with each rep. The amount of time it takes to complete such a high number of reps is where the stimulation and muscle growth will come from during the lifts. They are also activating a number of different types of muscle fibres that will grow bigger during recovery. It you take this simple tip and put it into motion you'll see better results quicker.Sweat By Coreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13231691726777894220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873345281374952230.post-57309971269885984482014-07-22T12:45:00.001-07:002014-07-22T12:45:23.974-07:00Perfect Bedtime Meal From Inner Armour

Are you looking for the perfect bedtime meal to help you build muscle and improve recovery? This is a very quick meal that you can put together in minutes that will have you feeling full and your muscle primed for growth with a sustained release of aminos into the blood stream for hours.

What you need:
Inner Armour Nitro Peak
Inner Armour Casein
1/4 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbs of Natural PB/Almond Butter

Instructions:
All all ingredients into a bowl. Add water slowly until completed mixed into a pudding texture.

Protein Flavours that i'm using are the chocolate casein and the chocolate PB in the Nitro Peak. Of course you can mix any flavours that you'd like but this will give you a nice true chocolate PB taste when mixing together. Additional tip for the summer. Place the pudding into the freezer for 60-90 minutes until it hardens up similar to a cheesecake texture.
Having trained for over 6 year now it's taken me from a small town community gym to becoming a Pro fitness model. I've been featured in international magazines and competed in a handful of fitness model competitions. Many things have changed over the years but the one thing that's always remained consistent is my love for bodybuilding. My training has always remained the main focus as I strive to become better every single day. What can I do with this body that i've created over the year from lifting iron and eating chicken breast?

Now it's time to find out! Over the next 6 weeks i'll be doing a video and photograph series featuring different physical activities that you can find on the West coast of Canada. The series title "#ISweat The Left Coast" will take you on an adventure into beautiful British Columbia and all that this stunning province can offer. I'll be taking part in activities with amateurs and professionals in their given sport to see if I have what it takes stand with them in their own sport. Let the adventure begin!
Obstacles can be both tangible and intangible as you strive to achieve your goals throughout your life. We like to believe that we know how the future will play out but more often than not it doesn't turn out that way. For some reason we (as humans) often find ways to hold ourselves back from achieving our own goals. It's one reason or another, an event, previous commitment, its raining, ext.. All excuses that our brain will come up with to justify why you haven't achieved your goal yet. The problem with this is that it's those very same excuses are now your obstacles that you've created for yourself. The best piece of advice i can give you is to not listen to your brain. That organ that lives between your ears will tell you to stop, it'll tell you you can't do something, but in reality it's only because it's telling you that. It's not the truth, it doesn't exist as a real tangible barrier. Those obstacles aren't real.. It's simply all in your head! Your body is far more capable of achieving greater accomplishments than your mind wants to allow it. Stop listening and start doing because you can!Sweat By Coreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13231691726777894220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873345281374952230.post-78929833626129553872013-05-25T11:38:00.000-07:002013-05-25T11:38:36.368-07:00Welcome Back My Friends

I know it's been months since my last post but i hope you can forgive me as i've gone through a revolution in my life that has seen me make drastic changes to all aspects of my life.

For starters, I moved from Toronto, Ontario Canada to Vancouver, British Columbia Canada in October to take a position as a territory manager for a sports supplement distribution company. It was an incredible opportunity for career advancement in the field that I loved and it was something that i needed to do. Now i'm representing brands such as Cytosport, Vitargo, Xyience, Promax, Pure Bar, Kaizen, MRI, and Grenade to name a few.

With this move taking place in the middle of my contest prep it was very difficult as i was traveling 4000 miles across the country in my car with 2 coolers full of food. Everything that i needed to do in order to learn a new city and start a new job took a lot of my time.

The contest came in November and i didn't do as well as I was hoping. It took a bit of time for me to understand what happen and made me think a lot about what i was doing in the fitness industry. Many dark nights happened and a lot of thinking went into my decision to continue pushing forward. During that time i got away from this blog because it wasn't fun anymore. I needed the time to focus on what i needed to do and get my shit together. Planning was everything and being able to get that plan going with a healthy balance in my life was a big step that took months for me.

Now i'm sitting here middle of May and i've finally got back to feeling better about myself and my life balance to be able to start blogging again. If you want me to touch on certain tops please email me at sweatwithcorey @ aol . com
Whenever a new year rolls around people flock to the local gyms to make good on their new years resolutions. It's great to see people wanting to take action towards living a healthy life but it's sad t think that 80% if new gym members will not continue into February. Why is this? How can the rate be so high of people that stop going after their goals within one month? I'll try to explain it the way i see it every year. It's not easy, people think that they can make huge changes in short periods of time and when they don't see the results they give up because it seems unattainable. First i think you have to look at how long it took you to get to your current situation? After that set the expectation that it'll just as long to get out of that condition and into one that you are happy with.

Setting a realistic expectation will certainly improve your moral and have you in good spirits as you workout day in and day out. If you are doing it for all the right reasons and you believe in yourself, you'll have no problems getting to the gym on a daily basis and eating properly. Another important part that goes along with that is the mental aspect of achieving your fitness goal. Always remember it's a 3 pillar approach that will keep you up [Physical, Diet, Mental]

For myself this year is one of transition as i've recently moved to the west coast of Canada and have planted the seeds of exciting things to come. I've got a number of big plans and goals to go after including breaking the 200 pound stage weight come show time. This would be a 15 pound muscle gain this year and it's a goal i'm actively going after. On the marketing front i also want to get back to writing more, giving back, and utilizing video.

Let's make this a year to remember!
As an adult i hope it's safe to say that you are taking a multivitamin... right? If not, i can't even begin to think about where to start in order to tell you all the benefits to taking one first thing in the morning. Not only does is regulate your body and promote overall good health, but it increases energy and allows your body to better utilize all the food that you ingest. In this day and age you can find many vitamin packs on the market that take care of everything you'll need in a one-a-day package. These are great because they take the guess work out of mix and matching products if you don't have the basic knowledge. You'll pay a little bit more but it's still worth it to do so in the end with it being around $1 a day. It's important to get all of your essential vitamins and minerals with a health dosage of omega fats. If you eat clean, likely you need to supplement your diet with an omega 3-6-9 in the morning to your daily recommended intake. If you don't eat so clean, you'd want to choose an omega 3 capsule because you'll be getting enough omega 6-9 from food. Omega 3 is the most important omega to obtain from supplementation because with the modification of food today it's almost eliminated the naturally occurring omega 3 within the foods. Of course with the exception of fish, but even farmed fish don't have the same level of omega 3 as the fresh wild fish. Another additive that I like to include with my morning vitamins is some form of liver detoxifier. Live care is important and the most common form of supplement is milk thistle.Sweat By Coreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13231691726777894220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873345281374952230.post-81673477444903276592012-09-15T12:17:00.000-07:002012-09-15T12:17:27.075-07:00For Immediate Release: Thank You Thank You

This is a message that is being sent out to everyone and anyone that has helped me along the way to achieving personal goals that i've set out for myself. As an athlete you need quality complex carbohydrates that will fuel your body throughout the day and during your workout. Oatmeal as a complex carbohydrate is said to me one of the best to consume with breakfast in the morning to not only break the fast from the night, but also to generate a quality energy source to power you through the day. It's also very inexpensive and easy to prepare in minutes. Along the taste of oatmeal can be bland, but with adding cinnamon, cocoa powder, or your favourite fruit, the taste becomes incredibly delicious and one of my favourite meals of the day.

Addition benefits include

Regulate cholesterol

Lower Blood Pressure

High in fiber

Stabilizes blood sugar levels

Protects against heart failure

Enhances immunity response to disease
